ORGANIZATION

The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley was formed in 1968 by a group of community leaders who recognized the need for high-quality programs and facilities at affordable costs for area young people. Early club programs were provided in small, borrowed locations and school playgrounds. As the community has grown, membership has now reached more than 1,600 youngsters. In 1992, the Boys & Girls Club opened a full-service facility at Newhall Park, which includes a full gym, recreation center, learning center, computer lab, teen lounge and administrative offices.

A new facility on the campus of Sierra Vista Junior High is scheduled to be completed in June 2003. With the opening of this second full-service facility, the club’s membership is expected to grow to 3,000. A smaller satellite clubhouse serves the community of Val Verde.

The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley is a member of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, an organization with more than 3,000 clubs nationwide. Our local club is independently governed by a board of directors comprised of outstanding leaders in the community.

More than 1,600 young people between the ages of 7 and 17 are currently engaged in a wide variety of programs including education & career exploration, the arts, sports, recreation and fitness, character & leadership development, and healthy life choices. We provide opportunities for young people to learn, explore, contribute and grow in a safe environment supervised by trained and dedicated staff members.

Our executive director, Jim Ventress, has more than 25 years of experience with Boys & Girls Clubs and is a well-respected advocate for youth in our community.

The club is a non-profit, non-sectarian organization. People are often astonished to learn that membership in the Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley is only $24 per year per child.

The Boys & Girls Club is supported by United Way through an annual allocation and also designated contributions to the annual United Way campaign.

This year, the Boys & Girls Club Foundation is being formed in order to raise funds to ensure the club’s operations in the future. A separate board comprised of 50 founding directors will assume responsibility for special events, an expansion campaign, our annual youth partners campaign and obtaining funding from private foundations. Please see additional information on the Foundation Page.

Our annual benefit auction, which began in 1972, has become the largest social and charitable event in the valley. It also enjoys a rich history of volunteer support and distinguished community leadership. This one event funds more than half of our annual operating budget. More than 300 tireless volunteers dedicate themselves to making this event the success it has become.

Youth partners help bridge the gap with annual campaign contributions ranging form $25 to $5,000. Memorial funds honor the past contributions of friends and volunteers.

Donations may be designated for our Endowment Fund to secure the club's future and enable capital expansion.

The club's success also depends on the dedicated volunteers who make tremendous contributions of time and talent, with responsibilities ranging form board membership and technical expertise to in-kind donations. Their commitment enables the club to offer the most affordable and accessible quality youth program in the valley.
